Parenting Plan Builder

Answer a few questions about your schedule, holidays, communication and decision-making, and get a complete draft parenting plan with real wording — ready to print, save as a PDF, and take advice on. Everything you type stays in your browser.

First names are enough. Everything you type stays on this page — it is never uploaded or stored.

Why put the plan in writing?

Most co-parenting conflict comes from ambiguity, not bad faith — two people remembering a conversation differently, or a situation nobody thought to discuss. A written plan removes the ambiguity: the schedule, the holiday rules, the response times and the decision-making process are all answered in advance, so day-to-day life doesn’t require a negotiation. Parents who write things down argue less, and children feel the difference.

The builder produces a draft, not a final legal document. Use it to get the substance agreed between you — then take it to a professional for advice before signing. Arriving with a complete draft usually makes that step faster and cheaper. If you haven’t settled the schedule yet, start with the Custody Schedule Calendar Generator; for school breaks and special days, the Holiday Custody Planner works out the rules this plan records.

Frequently asked questions

What should a parenting plan include?

A good plan covers the regular living arrangement and schedule, holidays and special days, how the parents will communicate, how major decisions will be made, and how the plan will be reviewed and disagreements resolved. The builder walks through each of these and produces wording for all of them.

Is a parenting plan legally binding?

On its own, no — it is a voluntary written agreement. It can generally be made binding only by a court order. In England and Wales you will usually need to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) before applying to court about child arrangements.

Is what I type private?

Yes. The names, ages and choices you enter are used only in your browser to assemble the document — they are never uploaded, stored or sent to any server. Only the email address you provide to unlock the download is submitted, so we can send you the free Starter Kit.

Should a solicitor or lawyer look at it?

Yes, ideally. The builder produces a solid draft to bring to that conversation, which usually saves time and cost — but this tool provides general information for separated parents in the UK. It is not legal advice and does not create a legally binding child arrangements order. Take independent legal advice before signing or relying on any agreement.
